International Collaborations – Mobility

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics actively participates in the initiatives of the State for the search for collaborations with foreign universities, investing in the introduction of internationalisation in its study programmes. In this context, partnerships have been developed with American and Chinese Universities.

A. ERASMUS
The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics has been actively involved in the Erasmus programme since its establishment. The Department supports incoming students with courses in English and the encouragement of mobility of lecturers and researchers.
The Department participates in a number of researcher mobility agreements beyond the Erasmus programme and supports members of the academic community in their search for scholarships.

B. Collaboration with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, USA
Harokopio University, on the initiative of the School of Health Sciences & Education / Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, signed in 2016 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rutgers University, USA (the MoU was renewed in 2021), in order to promote the exchange of students and staff between the two institutions and the development of collaborative activities in education and research.
In this context, the School of Health Sciences & Education / Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, in collaboration with the School of Public Health of Rutgers University, has planned Summer Courses, which include educational lectures and activities to be held in Greece and the USA with the participation of faculty and students from both institutions.
The first Summer Course, entitled “Food & Mediterranean Culture”, was scheduled to take place in June 2020 in Athens (Harokopeio University) and in other Greek cities (Nafplio, Kalamata, etc.). The Programme was addressed to postgraduate students and PhD candidates of the two Faculties and aimed at educating the trainees by providing in-depth knowledge of the historical, cultural, socio-economic, environmental and gastronomic aspects of food production and consumption in the Mediterranean region, as well as the significant contribution of the Mediterranean region to the development of the food industry.

C. Cooperation with Weifang Medical University, China
In the framework of a memorandum of cooperation between Harokopio University and Weifang Medical University, China, in 2022 a special protocol of cooperation was signed with the School of Health Sciences & Education / Department of Nutrition and Dietetics for the support of a foreign-language short course of study of one semester at undergraduate level for Chinese students. At the same time, within the framework of a cooperation agreement for the joint training of Chinese students in the field of Public Health, the participation of Chinese students in the Department’s foreign language Master’s Degree Programme entitled “Public Health & Nutrition” is promoted, which is planned to start its operation from the academic year 2023-2024.
