Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (PNandEN) pertains to patients who are very ill and therefore are covering their nutrients requirement with special made solutions. These patients do not receive the proper nutrients by mouth to maintain health. This nutritional support requires special guidelines and protocols. Other factors that influence EN and PN are the degree of metabolic stress, disease states, nutritional statues, organ function, drug-nutrient interactions, expected duration of therapy. These solutions can be prepared and delivered with innovative decision support systems.
