Kyriacou Adamantini

Professor-Bacteriology-Microbiology

Expert

My research interests are focused on issues of human gut microbiota (GM) concerning the possible effects of environmental factors on its composition and function, in health and disease. Also, the impact of the GM and its metabolic products on the intestinal barrier integrity. I have also been involved in research projects studying the aerobic and anaerobic treatment of agro-industrial by-products and food waste residues

Education

  • 1995: Post-Doctoral in Molecular Microbiology, Universite Henri Poincare Nancy I, France
  • 1994: PhD in Microbiology, Department of Biology – Biotechnology, Agricultural University of Athens
  • 1985: BSc in Biology, Department of Biology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Biology, Greece

Research Interests

  • Human gut microbiota. Composition and function in health and disease
  • Isolation and identification of new probiotic strains
  • Evaluation of natural substrates for potential prebiotic activity
  • Impact of the gut microbiota on the intestinal barrier integrity
  • Aerobic and anaerobic treatment of agro-industrial by-products and food waste residues
