Faidon Magkos is Professor in Obesity and Metabolism at the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports (NEXS) in the University of Copenhagen (Denmark); and Honorary Professor at the Division of Medicine in University College London (United Kingdom). Earlier, he has served as Associate Professor at NEXS (2018-2022); Assistant Professor in Physiology at the Clinical Nutrition Research Centre in the National University of Singapore (2015-2018); and Assistant Professor in Medicine at the Center for Human Nutrition in Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis (2011-2015). Faidon has a Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics, a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Exercise, and a PhD in Human Metabolism. He has completed postdoc appointments at Harokopio University of Athens (Greece) and Harvard Medical School in Boston (Massachusetts). He has published 219 peer-reviewed papers with an average impact factor of 7.1 (circa 2022) and his work has been cited >12,000 on Elsevier Scopus and >20,000 times on Google Scholar. Faidon’s h-index is 54 and 64, respectively; his 5-year field-weighted citation index (FWCI) is 3; and his overall career impact (Elsevier’s c-score) for his primary field of expertise (Endocrinology & Metabolism) ranks in the top 1.1-percentile worldwide. Faidon’s research interests revolve around the effects of diet and exercise on body weight homeostasis and metabolic function, the cardiometabolic complications of excess fat accumulation in different regions of the body, and how these can be rectified by weight loss.
